Profile of Borken's business location

Borken's Business Development Office regularly publishes a business location report on the town.

"In which we present the strength of our local enterprises, the many advantages of our location and the business landscape of the town. This allows us to thoroughly promote our business location." Mayor Rolf Lührmann.

The 50 page report presents Borken's business location, together with particularly important business sectors and a selection of example business enterprises.

Borken – an attractive business location!

Borken is a modern, medium-sized town with around 41,000 inhabitants and a trading area of around 100,000 people. Borken has an attractive town centre with many, well distributed shops and specialist retail stores. The town's location, outstanding transport infrastructure, schools and colleges with their broad range of subjects, as well as the town's many cultural events all help to make Borken an attractive business location. Borken also has a high amount of recreational opportunities to offer, lying as it does on the Dutch-German border, in the heart of  West Münsterland's parkland.

Furthermore, you will always find us working hard to continually improve the conditions in our town. For instance, at the old RCG site in Ahauser Street, you'll find excellent conditions for a new retail development.  Recently  the town  has completed a long awaited overhaul of the transport infrastructure.

On top of this, the town has made large amounts of pre-packaged commercial and industrial land available, at amazingly good conditions.

Borken is a dynamic town with a young and growing population, and according to  predictions this will remain the case, long into the coming decades. Aside from the high birth rate, Borken is also benefiting from an increased amount of newcomers who are choosing to settle here.

The rate of real consumption in the four Münsterland districts will double by 2040. The associated gains in buying power together with the growth in population, make Borken a very interesting investment option.

All this has a positive effect on town life, on the social infrastructure and on the availability and quality of residential and commercial property. In Borken, you will find motivated and well trained employees, now and in the future. In the coming decades, Borken will remain an attractive place to live, work and do business.

Borken ...on the right track

Borken is a town with importance across the region and is the seat of many local governmental bodies. There is an excess of commuter numbers and the town is a major source employment in the region.

Terms such as loyalty to location, innovative thinking and flexibility are not new to our local businesses. Thanks to a healthy sectoral mix of medium-sized enterprises, Borken has a head start on other towns, when comparisons of regional job market data are run. On top of this, the town's rural origins and pronounced, outgoing social nature guarantee an extremely high quality and equally willing workforce.

The following market sectors are heavily represented in Borken: the textile industry, wood processing, mechanical engineering, the food production industry, the plastics industry, the printing industry and of course the whole range of trades and services.

An attractive location to work and live...

Borken has many residential areas as well as a very high general standard of living.

We don't just consider the varied cultural and sporting events and busy club life, to be the heart and soul of the town. You will also find many affordable events and activities as well as a very attractive landscape filled with shops and boutiques. A number of excellent educational and training opportunities go to complete the picture.

With its large range of recreational activities, moderate traffic volume and safe school paths, Borken also offers a perfect environment in which to raise your children. This is complemented by a good social infrastructure and a high feeling of general well-being coupled with a low crime rate. Family friendly with a capital F!

The relatively low living costs in the town, also make it a great location. When compared on a national and European level, land and construction costs are much lower in Borken. The knock on effect of this is that the region's building and construction companies carry much lower overheads and maintenance costs. This in turn means that a house with garden is still very affordable. In fact, Borken is characterised by a very high number of detached houses.
