Borken - a town with lots to offer!
Borken ... on the right track - that is the slogan with which Borken promotes itself. The town's logo has an historical meaning, referring to its five towers and the ever present town walls which run around the centre.
The administrative centre of Borken is a growing middle-sized town with a population of some 41.600 inhabitants. It offers both residents and visitors an attractive town centre with many high quality shops as well as a very good infrastructure that serves the needs of both the town's people and local industry equally well. Nestled in the idyllic parkland of Münsterland, Borken's surrounding areas offer outstanding local recreational possibilities.
Our new ecologically minded residential and industrial areas bolster Borken's reputation as an exceptional, forward-looking town in West Münsterland.
Development of an attractive town centre
Active town promotion is conducted together with a large number of schemes to make Borken's town centre even more attractive.
In previous years, Borken managed to undertake significant private sanitation improvements to buildings in the town centre. These were carried out under the guise of a communal building rejuvenation program which allowed for reconstruction of the centrally located Market Square (Marktplatz). This was a significant upgrade for the town. Also worth mentioning is the construction of the Kuhm Centre, the reconstruction of the Vennehof Shopping Centre with its new range of businesses and the construction of a central parking area in Wall Street (Wallstraße) with a designated footpath leading to the town centre.
During the summer months, a varied program of events and performances takes place in the Market Square (Marktplatz). Examples include; the Open Air Concert, Borken - that's live; Borken a la Carte in July and the Borken festival ("Borkener Stadtfest") in September.
