The founding of Gemen is heavily connected with Gemen's moated castle. The has a lot to do with an extensive land use plan from the middle ages, encompassing Großen Hook, Holzplatz, Neustraße, Freiheit and the residential street Achter de Waake, which is still in use today.
Gemen's population has risen dramatically due to the enormous construction projects of the previous years and now lies at around 8.000.The new construction sites of Peterskamp and Langenkamp directly border the district of Borken Town. Aside from the moated castle, which is without exaggeration Borken's major tourist attraction, Gemen also hosts a shooting festival, which is town's largest carnival as well as the Castle-run, which is well known, far and wide.
The representative and spokesperson for the district is Walter Schwane.
